It’s enormous and very striking when seen in person (it’s hanging at the Metropolitan Museum of Art). I first heard about it when I went to see Patti Smith perform at a Met event - she talked about how obsessed she had been with this painting while she was recording Horses. She would come to the museum every week just to stare at it. Patti said it was like a visual representation of how she felt when the visions she described in her lyrics came to her.
